At the University of the Aegean, the institution of the Academic Advisor operates in accordance with the Internal Regulation of the University (Government Gazette 6876/19.12.2026, Vol. B).

The Academic Advisors are faculty members (D.E.P.) of the Department of Geography who provide support to postgraduate students throughout their studies, offering guidance on academic and professional matters. The same Academic Advisor remains assigned to a student until the completion of their studies. In the event of the Advisor’s prolonged absence (e.g. research/educational leave or health-related reasons), the Department Assembly appoints a new Academic Advisor. A new Academic Advisor may also be appointed following a substantiated request submitted by either the student or the Academic Advisor to the Department Assembly.

The Secretariat informs students about their Academic Advisor, the Advisor’s role, and the available means of communication, via email and through the website of the Postgraduate Programme “Human Geography, Development and Spatial Planning.”

Role of the Academic Advisor:

  • Provides information on the operation of the Programme of Study, its infrastructure and facilities, laboratories, research activities, and opportunities for postgraduate students to participate in them.
  • Provides guidance on the services and support structures available to students at the University of the Aegean.
  • Encourages collaboration with teaching staff, as well as participation in educational, research, and other academic support activities.
  • Provides advice on course selection, taking into account each postgraduate student’s interests, skills, and abilities.
  • Monitors students’ academic progress and provides support in addressing potential difficulties that may affect the smooth progression of their studies.
  • Supports students’ academic and professional development, providing information and guidance on further studies and career opportunities.

At the beginning of each academic year, a list of postgraduate students enrolled in the Postgraduate Programme “Human Geography, Development and Spatial Planning” is published, indicating their Student Registration Number and the faculty member of the Department of Geography appointed as their Academic Advisor. The assignments are made following a decision of the Department Assembly, upon the recommendation of the Programme’s Coordinating Committee.

Postgraduate students may arrange meetings with their Academic Advisor via Zoom following prior communication with the Advisor. Meetings can be held through the Advisor’s personal Zoom room, the link to which is available on the “Staff” page of the Postgraduate Programme’s website.
