Course Content
The "Third World" from a geopolitical term of the Cold War era, ended up being used today to primarily separate poor from rich countries. At the dawn of the 21st century, 5/6 of the world's population lives in conditions of poverty and destitution. The causes and description of this global inequality are the subject of this course. The course could be titled "Geography of Underdevelopment". A brief overview is given of the causes (historical, geopolitical, demographic) that led Africa, Latin America, a large part of Asia and regions of Oceania to economic underdevelopment and political subjugation. The demographic characteristics of their population, their economic and social development, urbanization, the foreign policy of these countries and their future prospects are examined.
